Cheaters Never Win

Everyone has heard the saying, "Cheaters Never win, and winners never cheat." However this is not as easy to comprehend as it is to verbally say. This is mainly because the cheaters actually do win in the short run. Is it moral? Cheating or plagiarism of course, is not moral, but it is the easy way out to find success. Everyone thinks that the person who cheated/plagiarized is a hero until they find out what they did to become so successful. Why do people cheat then, people might ask? The answer lies in the fact that our society is so competitive to climb to the top, and be the best, that cheating or stealing someone else's work sometimes seems like the only way out. I however do not claim to be a cheater. Personally I find more gratification and personal fulfillment if I complete a task to the best of my ability, on my own.
This blog post is supposed to mainly reflect the cheating nature of plagiarism I am positive, considering this is an English class. However, cheating goes up and beyond stealing someones work of art. Cheating is in every aspect of life. Sports for instance is constantly tabloid filled with the new rising star being accused of performance enhancing drugs. Some musicians are pointed stern fingers at for stealing someone else's rift or beat to a song. IT'S EVERYWHERE.
As I mentioned, cheating or stealing is downright degrading. It makes the cheater or plagiarizer look bad, and it embarasses the person who they stole from. Overall, it is just an ugly situation to put yourself into. Think twice, cheat never.

Marlboro Advertisement

marlboro_man.jpg

Smooth, cool, rugged, all of these adjectives are being used to describe Marlboro cigarettes. I think the use of not many words at all other than the brand name, proves how confident about their product they really are. This may seem like a plain advertisement but it stands out among most others. Marlboro has always tried to relay the message that their cigarettes are for the real men, and tough guys. No one wants to see a tobacco advertisement with a girly man smoking a cigarette in a dress. I truly believe that because of their advertisement theme, they have not had to change their ads throughout the years much at all. The rough, tough, manly tobacco theme will always be a popular item.

Breaking apart this advertisement, there is a lot of appeal to the customers. The use of the cowboy is brilliant, because when everyone is little they always want to be a cowboy, an indian, a fireman, or anyone else who is tough. Reaching these senses from the customers, the Marlboro tobacco brand can easily persuade people to be TOUGH and buy their brand over the competitors. As we discussed in class the use of logos, pathos, and ethos can be used to in depth break apart an advertisement. The ethos of this ad portrays a man with much character, he is bold, he seems extremely credible because he is a man of experience. The logos is simple, it seems logical or a no brainer to smoke Marlboro so you can be a real man. Lastly, the emotional appeal or the pathos, as i mentioned of wanting to be a cowboy, or roughneck, or a hardworking man can be achieved if this customer buys Marlboro cigarettes.
